Tasks

The Arts Council of Häme is one of Finland's 13 regional arts councils. The main tasks of the Council include promoting arts and culture and strengthening creativity and cultural identity in its region. The Council supports artistic work by awarding working grants for artists and allocating project grants, distributing state subsidies to collective bodies, awarding arts prizes and providing regional artist services. Furthermore, the Arts Council launches and implements various arts and culture projects, both independently and in cooperation with other players in the region. Tools for exercising general arts and culture political influence include initiatives, proposals, statements and strategies.

Examples of our forms of operation:

  • Supporting artists and arts and cultural associations by awarding grants and subsidies
  • Providing regional artists' services for professional artists, associations and amateur artists
  • Developing new forms of cooperation and increasing the dialogue between the various branches of art
  • Improving the status and employment of professional artists
  • Developing art education
  • Drawing up initiatives and statements as the regional art expert
  • Issuing publications and information
  • Promoting international activities
  • Promoting the 'one-percent principle' related to building projects
  • Maintaining artists' residencies

The Research Unit of the Arts Council of Finland publishes statistical information on state support for art and artists, developments in the number of artists, employment and professional training in the arts as well as other topical and interesting issues related to arts policy.
